October 23rd and October 30th @ 3:00 PM
The Manayunk-Roxborough Art Center presents dramatic readings from an original stage production, Vincent Van Gogh, A Painter’s Life on October 23 and October 30, 2016, both starting at 3:00 P.M. Tickets are $10. Seating is limited.
MRAC Vice President Mike Muir conceived this project in March, and subsequently shared an outline of the script story with the writer and poet members of the art center’s Humanities Program. In response, he received 118 poems and short prose pieces from a dozen writers. Muir enlisted the support of MRAC Humanities Director Peter Krok and board member David Kozinski. Over a three-month period, Muir worked with the group to consolidate, edit and arrange selected pieces chronologically. The readings will be performed by a cast comprised of writers from MRAC and local actors.
The production covers the turbulent life of Van Gogh from cradle to grave. It is a fictional biography drawing upon historical facts, but creating original interpretations and dialogue around the events. It is an extraordinary story of genius struggling to overcome madness.
If you are a fan of Van Gogh or are interested in learning more about his life and his art, don’t miss this event. Due to some mature content, we recommend children under 12 do not attend.
