How can I make an image seem more realistic? How do you use perspective? Are black and white colors?

This first week of Summer Kids Classes 2019, our students will explore these questions in a playful way in drawing, painting and photo collage classes alike. Materials used are charcoal, pencil and paper, among others.

June 17- June 21, 2019

Van Gogh and many other artists are famous for their expressive use of color, but how does an artist do that?

The students will explore how much fun it can be working with color by drawing, painting with acrylics, mixing colors and dying fabrics.

June 24 - June 28, 2019

This week the students will get an introduction in collage making!

Ripping up magazines, the use of color patterns, working large scale and making 3-d collages are all part of the fun this week!

July 8 - July 12, 2019

This week students will learn about the value and possibilities of recycling materials by constructing new pieces in a creative way!

This weeks materials include recycled birdhouses, found objects, soft clay and mosaic.

July 15 - July 19, 2019

This week we will explore the uses of textile. 

There are several classes that play with this important material, such as designing and working with fabric, sewing and weaving!

July 22 - July 26, 2019

This week, the students will get inspired by different styles of art.

The student will study great masters, like Andy Warhol, Jackson Pollack, Matisse, Picasso, Stella and Dali and create a Masterpiece of their own!

July 29 - August 2, 2019

This week the students will study underwater animals, insects and wildlife both local and exotic.

Techniques will include drawing, painting and sculpture.

August 5 - August 9, 2019

This week the students will engage with nature in very original and creative ways!

Students will learn about the principles of photography, how to create cyanotypes, still life painting, flower art and use organic materials and forms.


Celebrate Manayunk Roxborough Neighborhood

August 12 - August 16, 2019

In this final week of Kids Summer Classes the students will explore and create art in their neighborhood!

The students are challenged to paint the landscape and architecture of the neighborhood, explore the local murals and parks and decorate the garden with painted rocks and mosaics! A great way to end a fabulous summer!
