“As a New Leaf Trembles”

the art of Pragya Gupta

May 18, 2024 from 4 - 7 p.m. at the Manayunk-Roxborough Art Center

As a New Leaf Trembles . . .

Pragya seeks to draw the viewer into a quiet, contemplative space as an antidote to a noisy and hyperconnected world. She hopes the viewer will walk down back lanes with her and loiter for a while with some of the simple and often overlooked objects and scenes of everyday life.

Pragya grew up in Patiala, a small city in Northern India, where no. 13-E, a corner house, was her world - she climbed mango trees and burrowed under hedges, traded marbles and played in the street until called to bed. The memory of that simplicity - before screen time - is a strong influence in her work.

Primarily a self-taught artist, Pragya’s art education includes studying at Art Students League of New York and Continuing Education coursework at Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts. She earned an MBA from Wharton after studying business and engineering in India.

Exhibition list: San Diego Museum of Contemporary Art, CA; Customs House Museum in Clarksville, TN; Strathmore Mansion, MD; Art Students League of New York, NY; The American Artists Professional League; Philadelphia Sketch Club, Manayunk-Roxborough Art Center and Abington Art Center in and around Philadelphia, PA.
